I've always liked to climb trees, to make it to the very top and sit on the tallest branch just to think and relax for a while. For me, a tree symbolizes both comfort and clarity - a place that is undisturbed by the surrounding world but offers an excellent view of what is below. My writing is like the comfort of a tree. It is a space where I come to understand myself, to collect my thoughts, and to write down bits of inspiration. It is a neccessary meditation that makes the world become a little more managable. These pieces I have included are a small collection of what I have accomplished over my years in college. While they do not represent all that I can do, I hope they give you a glimpse of who I am as a writer and what I have accomplished through the Minor in Writing.

My Writing

This essay examines my voice as a writer. While writing has always brought me a sense of comfort, certain situations have caused me to alter my voice and create impersonal and unenjoyable writing.

This project was completed in my first year of the minor. In an attempt to reboot the magazine known as Cosmopolitan, I chose to create a new section called "Legendary Hot Romances" because I thought the magazine lacked some historical or more academic aspects.

This essay was written while studying abroad in Florence, Italy. Both the experience described here and the writing itself are memorable to me because I was able to write without fear of judgment and I got to meet an incredible and inspiring man.

After many hours of research and writing, this 61 page thesis contains some of my most inspired academic work. Music has always inspired me and so I enjoyed examining the ways it has influenced social structures and gender roles. The link will take you to a dropbox pdf version.
